Cathy Wood from KD Recruitment is aiming to raise £1000 for MNDa (Motor Neuron Disease Association) by riding 1000 miles on a bike throughout the month of August. She is hoping to raise as much money as she can for the charities Mission 5000 fundraising event this year.

KD Recruitment are an award winning specialist recruiter based in Scarborough, supporting businesses of all sizes across North and East Yorkshire.

Kelly Dunn, Managing Director of KD Recruitment said “One of our team has a close family member who has recently been diagnosed with MND and we are doing everything we can to raise money for the charity so that they can support others who are suffering, along with their family members, and also look into the vital research that is needed to find a treatment and a cure.

This is a devastating disease for everyone involved and not enough is known about it. So we would really like to raise awareness in the local community and try to raise as much money as we can”

Currently there are 5000 people living with MND at any one time. 6 people are diagnosed every day and 6 people die from the disease every day. By raising this much needed money, it can go towards vital research into treatments along with being able to provide specialist equipment to those who need it most. The money raised from Mission 5000 will bring the charity closer to achieving their ultimate mission; a world free from MND.

Cathy Wood who is taking on the challenge said “I am new to riding a bike as it is a hobby I recently took up and thought that the Mission 5000 challenge sounded like something I could do to raise as much money I can for such a great cause. I am going out every day to ride and have managed to do over 290 miles so far in the first week with another 710 to go. Its great to be able to do this challenge living on the East Coast as my routs have some of the most beautiful views in the country.”

Locally there is an MNDa branch covering Scarborough, Whitby and Bridlington where you can get as much support, advice and guidance as you need as well as a dedicated nurse from Saint Catherines Hospice who works with you every step of the way.
