We were really excited to have our Managing Director Kelly Dunn, not only nominated for two awards but also winning “Brightest Micro Star” at the Star Women in Business Awards Courtesy of Four Tigers Media on Friday afternoon.
This fantastic event celebrating women in business, was held at Scarborough Spa with 260 guests attending. They had Carolyn Hodgson from the regional news presenting the whole ceremony along with Debbie Mullen, Head of Corporate Banking for Barclays Yorkshire as head judge and key note speaker, along with Kay Fraser, Interim Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor from CU Scarborough. Both ladies gave inspirational speeches about their careers to set the awards up. There was also a group of high achieving students from the all the local schools in the area and a number of successful apprentices.
The whole day was a huge success and our team thoroughly enjoyed celebrating with all the other finalists and winners. Kelly said “It was such an honour just to be nominated for the New Star and Brightest Star awards; I was completely shocked when they called out my name as the winner. Having spent eleven years in Recruitment working for an agency initially Scarborough and then in York, I set up KD Recruitment in Scarborough back in September 2017 to enable me to continue on my career, but also spend time with my family without the long commute. It has been a roller-coaster of ups and downs but I am so pleased to see all the hard work has paid off”
After having her children in 2015, Kelly didn’t want to commute to York anymore and just be a number in a large corporate business. She didn’t see her family and wanted to have a good balance in her life. She realised that there was no one else in the Scarborough area with her passion, skills and expertise to really make a difference, so she set up her own recruitment agency specialising purely in HR, Finance, Office Support, Marketing, Procurement, Logistics and Supply chain roles; covering North and East Yorkshire. She focuses on thoroughly understanding her clients’ needs by personally going out to meet them and then matching the right candidate to the right job; as well as being able to offer advice on writing CV’s, conducting effective interviews and career guidance. She has really made a difference to the local market from the day the business started trading and continues to build her profile and client base daily. She knows that as a new agency in the area, she has a lot to prove to show how different KD Recruitment is from everyone else, however she does this in such a way that she is able to demonstrate her ability to be the best at what she does along with her passion for recruitment to be able to work closely with her clients and their business. They have really supported her and now continue to use KD Recruitment for all their recruitment needs.
Kelly’s personable approach and relationship building skills have enabled her to work with many companies along the Yorkshire Coast, York, Harrogate and Hull areas from new start ups, through to some of the large corporate PLC’s . Kelly works hard networking in person at various events and on social media, building her business up from scratch on her own as to maintain her personal reputation. She presents at a number of seminars that she is invited to from businesses in the area as well as hosting some herself. She also works closely with a number of schools and colleges in the region inspiring the students to help them in their future careers which is a personal passion of hers.
