Our client is a leading business with multiple sites within the region. They are currently looking for a Garage Manager based in the Malton area, to support their transport manager in the smooth running of transport operations; making sure that all commercial vehicles are regularly maintained to a high standard and are fully functioning.

Responsibilities

Working in a busy transport department you could be coordinating the day to day tasks and workload within the department, upkeeping the Vehicle administration and accurate Record keeping, as well as monitoring and booking of MOT/ ADR/ Tank tests. You will also need to order parts, in the most cost effective and best quality way and make sure that everyone adheres to health and safety.

As well as the management side, you will have a number of mechanical duties to undertake which could include maintenance tasks; complying with Operator “O” licence requirements. Servicing and repairs of all vehicles to a high standard, undertaking safety inspections to DVSA standards – liaising with department Transport co-ordinators to ensure maximum vehicle availability as well as preparing vehicles for annual MOT inspection.

Qualities

You may also need to be able to diagnose faults and make necessary repairs in a timely manner to ensure maximum vehicle availability using computerised diagnostic equipment, repair driver reported defects and record as actioned, carry out repairs to specialised discharge equipment – Fuel Oil & LPG tankers and Bulk Blowing vehicles as well as attending vehicle breakdowns as required.

That’s why we are looking for someone who is a fully qualified HGV mechanic (NVQ level 3 or equivalent) with experience of diesel, hydraulic and electrics as well as working experience from within a HGV workshop environment. Due to the nature of the role you will need a full UK driving licence. A HGV licence is also desirable, although not essential.

Experience

Someone who is extremely motivated and able to work on their own initiative within a fast-paced environment with a strong attention to detail. Someone who has excellent communication skills with a passion for driving continuous improvement.

This is a full-time position working 45 hours per week (5 days over 7) with additional ‘out of hours’ breakdown cover, plus overtime along with a number of other benefits.
